Finding a court is one thing.

Finding the right people to play with is another.

That is why we are introducing Open Matches in the CourtBrain app. The feature helps players discover open matches from different platforms in one place, making it easier to see what games are available nearby and join a match that fits your time, location and level.

Open Matches is currently available in the CourtBrain app for iOS and Android.

The feature is still under development and coverage will continue to grow over time. But the idea is simple: players should not have to jump between different apps, booking systems and club platforms just to find a good match.

What are open matches?

Open matches are games that other players can join.

Instead of booking a full court with a complete group, a player or organiser creates a match with one or more open spots. Other players can then join that match, usually based on time, location, sport and level.

In padel, this is especially useful because a standard match usually needs four players. If one or two players are missing, the match may not happen. Open matches make it easier to fill those spots and turn interest into actual play.

The same type of behaviour exists in other racket sports too, including pickleball, tennis and squash, sometimes under names like open play, public matches, socials, activities or matchplay sessions.

Why we added Open Matches to CourtBrain

CourtBrain already helps players discover clubs, courts and available times across different locations and systems.

Open Matches is the next step.

Players do not only want to know where they can play. They also want to know what they can join.

Today, open matches can be spread across different booking systems, club apps and platforms. That means a good match might exist nearby, but you may never see it unless you know exactly where to look.

With CourtBrain Open Matches, we want to make that easier.

By aggregating open matches from different systems, CourtBrain gives players a broader overview of available playing opportunities in one place.

That means fewer missed matches, less switching between apps and a better chance of finding a game that actually works for you.

How CourtBrain Open Matches works

Open Matches works in a similar way to searching for available court times in CourtBrain.

You start by opening the CourtBrain app and searching for a location and time.

CourtBrain then shows available open matches that match your search. Each match is displayed as a match card, so you can quickly understand the key details before deciding whether it is relevant for you.

A match card can include information such as:

• The club or location
• The time of the match
• How many spots are left
• The player level
• The platform or system where the match was created

This gives you a faster way to compare available matches without having to check several different apps or booking systems one by one.

Understanding player levels

Player levels can vary depending on which platform or booking system the match was created on.

That means one system may describe levels in one way, while another system may use a slightly different structure or scale.

To make this easier to understand, CourtBrain includes level information inside the app.

When you see a match level, you can tap or click on Player Level to open an information box that explains what the different levels mean. This helps you better understand whether a match is suitable for you before you decide to join.

Our goal is to make level information clearer across systems, even when the original matches come from different platforms.

How to join a match

When you find a match you want to join, you select the match in CourtBrain.

From there, you are sent to the platform or booking system where the match was originally created. That is where you can complete the process and join the match.

CourtBrain does not replace the original platform. Instead, we help you discover the match and then send you to the right place to join it.

This means clubs and booking systems can keep managing the match in their own environment, while players get a better overview of what is available across the market.

Why this matters for players

Open Matches makes it easier to answer one of the most common questions in racket sports:

Many matches are created but never completed. If a match is missing one or two players, it may never happen. When that happens, the players do not get to play, the club may miss a booking and the wider ecosystem loses activity.

Better discovery can help more matches reach the right players.

A match with two open spots at one club may be exactly what two players nearby are looking for. But if those players never see the match, the opportunity disappears.

By making open matches easier to discover, CourtBrain can help more games happen.

Open Matches is currently available in the CourtBrain app for iOS and Android.

The feature is still being developed, and coverage will continue to expand over time. We are working to improve how matches are collected, displayed and filtered so that players can find more relevant opportunities by location, time, sport, level and format.

This is an important step in CourtBrain’s wider mission: to collect racket-sport information and make it accessible and useful for players.

Now, we are helping players discover actual games they can join.
